Key Elements

Mauritius' Cybercrime Strategy is designed to enable law enforcement agencies in Mauritius to detect, handle and prosecute cybercriminals and to support the judiciary to understand the technicalities and complexities associated with cybercrime cases. The Strategy supports Mauritius' National Cyber Security Strategy. The Cybercrime Strategy aims to:
(i) ensure law enforcement agencies are able to detect and investigate cybercrime efficiently;
(ii) provide a more effective legal framework for investigating and prosecuting cybercrime;
(iii) enhance the capacity of the judiciary to deal with cybercrime and digital evidence;
(iv) develop enhanced intelligence on cybercrime threats;
(v) work with international counterparts to improve cooperation on cybercrime;
(vi) support the industry by responding to cybercrime;
(vii) educate the community on the risks of cybercrime.

Interventions to support these goals are organised into the following six priority areas identified to strengthen the national response to cybercrime:
(1) Develop a more effective legal framework to tackle and prosecute cybercrime;
(2) Build capacity to better address cybercrime;
(3) Promote an intelligence-led approach and information sharing;
(4) Foster public-private partnerships that allow for information sharing with the private sector and enhanced collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders in the area of cyber security and the protection of critical information infrastructure;
(5) Improve international collaboration on cybercrime;
(6) Create awareness by educating citizens to protect themselves.
